The CUEIM has an increasingly central role in the debate on sustainability and supports the Polytechnic University of Marche (UniVPM) in the organisation of the Conference “Sustainable tourism: good practices from the Academy to territories”, which will be held in Ancona on December the 5th.
Both the Consortium and the Polytechnic are actively engaged on the theme of sustainable tourism and valorisation of territories. The event, in particular, is the launching event of a project initiative, which involves UniVPM and various universities of the CUEIM’s network, aimed at defining a theoretical and operational model for the study, the promotion and the enhancement of best practices in the sector of sustainable tourism.
The common objective is to create and animate synergies between both public and private actors for a unitary and integrated management of the cultural, tourist and environmental heritage of the territories, in a sustainable manner.
Nowadays researchers are posing many questions to explore the increasingly complex theme of sustainable tourism:
- What are the managerial actions to put in place for the concrete realization of sustainable tourism?
- What are the tools currently available for decision-makers?
- If sustainability would mean reducing tourist presences, would we still be willing to pursue it?
- How to build and consolidate strategic and permanent connections between institutions, private companies, citizens and external users for a model of tourism development geared to full sustainability?
- How to identify the sizing of the “productive capacity” of the territory in terms of demand and supply of sustainable tourism?
The conference is therefore an important opportunity of debate between some of the main national referents, to start a dialogue in response to these questions.
Encouraging a kind of tourism that combines economic prosperity, equity and social cohesion with the protection and safeguarding of environmental and cultural values, adopting a medium / long-term strategy and targeted investments, seems to be the common goal.
