The collaboration with Greening The Islands is proceeding with the production of a first report on progresses and priorities of the islands of Crete (Greece), Egadi (Italy) and Helgoland (Germany). The report will analyse the current status of the three different insular contexts, therefore enabling the possibility to identify new solutions for the achievement of the circular economy and sustainable tourism objectives.
In this regard, CUEIM will focus the attention on some relevant case studies belonging to the research world for the waste, energy, water and mobility sectors.
Indeed, Academia and research centres play an important role to gain an effective progress on sustainable development since they produce, safeguard and disseminate knowledge as a precious source of inspiration for stakeholders who want to know about current social changes and face different issues.
The report will be presented in Palermo on the 15th October at the opening session of the 6° International Conference “Introduction and presentation of the first Greening the Islands Observatory report (European Islands’ Sustainability Overview, best Practises – focus on Crete, Egadi Archipelago and Helgoland)” with the participation of Mr. Gianni Chianetta, director of GTI and the representative of CPMR (Conference Peripheral Maritime Regions). A Round Table will follow the session with some relevant speakers open to debate on the outcomes of the report and future steps and opportunities for public and private financing with particular reference to the projects and initiatives that will have been identified on the three islands.
